Funding Opportunities

To accomplish its mission, the Chordoma Foundation funds high impact research projects that advance its comprehensive research roadmap.

Prize for New Chordoma Cell Lines
In order to help expand the Cell Line Panel the Chordoma Foundation will offer $5,000 prizes for each new cell line that is selected for inclusion in the panel. Any investigator, including recipients of Chordoma Foundation research grants, who has created an immortalized chordoma cell line is eligible to receive this prize .
To submit a cell line for inclusion in the cell line panel please follow the instructions contained in these documents:

Development and Characterization of Chordoma Model Systems

Currently, access to valid model systems is a major barrier for chordoma research and treatment development. To overcome this barrier the Chordoma Foundation seeks to create and distribute well-characterized model systems including cell lines, xenografts, and/or transgenic animal models of chordoma that faithfully represent the biology of human chordomas. One-year grants of up to $25,000 each will be awarded for projects to create and/or characterize relevant models of chordoma.

A letter of intent was due August 1, 2008, and the completed application was due September 15, 2008. Awards will be announced on November 15, 2008.

Co-funded grants with the Liddy Shriver Sarcoma Initiative

The Liddy Shriver Sarcoma Initiative helps fund research that is targeted at finding more effective treatments for sarcomas. Since Chordoma is one many sarcoma subtypes, the Chordoma Foundation has partnered with the Liddy Shriver Sarcoma Initiative to co-fund chordoma research grants. To apply for a co-funded grant, investigators should submit an application to the Liddy Shriver Sarcoma Initiative. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis (there is no application deadline).  All chordoma-related grants that are recommended for funding by Liddy Shriver Sarcoma Initiative reviewers will be forwarded to the Chordoma Foundation Board of Directors to be considered for co-funding. Co-funding decisions will be made based on the availability of funds and the project’s relevance to the Chordoma Foundation research roadmap.

Other Funding Sources

Sarcoma Foundation of America - Grants of $25,000 are available to cover equipment and supplies in support of research on the etiology, molecular biology, pathogenesis, diagnosis, and treatment of human sarcomas.
